DETAILS FOR THE TRAINING
Integrated Treatment: The Role of Medications in CBT-Based Therapy
This course will help deepen your understanding of the connection between brain chemistry, psychopharmacology, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to enhance mental health wellness.
Course Overview
This course provides an in-depth exploration of three important topics:
1. the role of neurotransmitters in brain function and mood;
2. medications used to treat anxiety and depression; and
3. how these medications can be integrated with CBT when needed.
A foundational knowledge of neurotransmitters (the brain’s chemical messengers) is crucial for understanding how emotions are regulated. You’ll learn how serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, GABA, and other neurotransmitters have an effect on anxiety and depression.
You’ll also learn how medications used to treat anxiety and depression work. This course will review SSRIs, SNRIs, benzodiazepines, and other psychotropic medications and their potential side effects.
Additionally, this course will discuss how CBT can be integrated with pharmacotherapy to treat anxiety and depression. Medication alone is not always the best option; rather, the most effective treatment often involves a combination of medication and psychotherapy.
This course will explore how CBT combined with medication can enhance treatment outcomes. You’ll gain valuable perspectives regarding real-world scenarios in which a combined approach is recommended and how you can collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide the best care for your clients.
Who Should Attend: Students, therapists, and other mental health professionals.
